Roundabout Theatre Company has announced additional casting for Tony winner Stephen Karam’s new adaptation of Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard, which will arrive on Broadway this fall under the direction of Simon Godwin.
Tony winner Chuck Cooper will play Pischik, joining Broadway and Hollywood actress Diane Lane, who is playing prima donna Ranevskaya. The star-studded principal cast also includes Joel Grey ( Cabaret, Wicked) as Firs, Celia Keenan-Bolger (Peter and the Starcatcher) as Varya, Tavi Gevinson ( The Crucible) as Anya, John Glover ( Love! Valour! Compassion!) as Gaev and Harold Perrineau ( Lost, Zero Dark Thirty) as Lopakhin.
The Cherry Orchard will begin previews September 15 and open October 16 for a limited engagement through December 4 at the American Airlines Theatre. The production marks a homecoming for Lane, who made her Broadway debut in 1977 playing a child in a revival of the modern classic that starred Irene Worth (with Meryl Streep playing the maid).
The complete cast includes and Tina Benko (The Crucible), Susannah Flood, Maurice Jones, Quinn Mattfeld, Aaron Clifton Moten, Peter Bradbury, Philip Kerr, Lise Bruneau, Jacqueline Jarrold, Ian Lassiter and Carl Hendrick Louis.
The creative team includes Scott Pask (sets), Michael Krass (costumes), Donald Holder (lights), Christopher Cronin (siound), Jonathan Goddard (movement) and Nico Muhly (original music).
