The two will play parents in the film adaptation of Pete Fromm's coming-of-age novel of the same name. Max Mayer will direct the movie that centers on a teenage girl, her troubled mother (Danes), and her often-absent father (Marsden).
Danes was last seen on Broadway in Pygmalion and appeared Off-Broadway in The Vagina Monologues. She won an Emmy Award for her performance in the title role in HBO's "Temple Grandin."
Marsden starred as Corny Collins in the 2007 film version of "Hairspray." He is best known for playing the superhero Cyclops in the three "X-Men" films and recently made a guest appearance on ABC's "Modern Family."
A release date for the film has not yet been announced.
