Dates of the Teutonic visit are June 14-21. As was the case in the summer of 2003, the production will be directed by Alfred Preisser and star Ty Jones in the title role. Jones won an Obie Award last year for his work in the Classical Theater of Harlem's The Blacks. At the Bonn festival, the company will present the work in the ruins of a 13th century monastery in the Seven Hills district just outside of Bonn on the other side of the Rhine. The monastery was blown up by Napoleon in the 19th century.
The young company has tackled Shakespeare before; in fact, it has done Macbeth. The "Scottish Play" was CTH's inaugural production in 1999. Also in the cast will be April Thompson and Off-Broadway veteran Arthur French. The troupe, known for its speedy way with a classic, will bring Macbeth in at about 90 minutes.
