This is one of several cast changes in a busy week for the musical about love, family and community.
On Aug. 19, "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks will make her Broadway debut as Nina Rosario, and Kyle Beltran (10 Things To Do Before I Die at Second Stage) joins the cast as Usnavi after playing the role across the country in the national tour of In the Heights.
Sparks will play a limited 12-week engagement through Nov. 14.
With a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes and conceived by composer-lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda, In the Heights is directed by Thomas Kail.
In the Heights, according to the producers, "tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood — a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind."
