News Closer's Marber to Pen Screenplay for "The Believers" Patrick Marber, who will be represented on Broadway next season with After Miss Julie, will pen the screenplay for "The Believers," the new Zoe Heller novel released earlier this week.

Variety reports that producer Scott Rudin and Miramax Films have acquired the rights to the novel, which was released by Harper.

"The Believers," according to the industry paper, is a "character study of members of a dysfunctional New York-based family forced to examine their lives and each other after the patriarch suffers a stroke that leaves him in a coma."

Marber and Rudin also teamed on the 2006 film "Notes on a Scandal," also based on a novel by Heller.

The Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Marber's After Miss Julie will begin previews Sept. 18 at Broadway's American Airlines Theatre. Marber is also the author of the Tony-nominated Closer.
