News Cohen's The Punishing Blow, with Duerr, to Play Manhattan JCC Randy Cohen's The Punishing Blow, An Illustrated Lecture Delivered By Order of the Orange County Criminal Court will make its Manhattan premiere in January 2009.

Presented at 8 PM on Jan. 7 and 8, 2009, at the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan, the production will feature actor Seth Duerr (Moby Dick–Rehearsed), who also directs. Additional performances of the 90-minute work will be announced shortly.

The Punishing Blow, penned by Emmy winner and "Ethicist" columnist Randy Cohen, received its world premiere as part of the 6th annual Woodstock Fringe Festival last August. Duerr also starred in the world premiere of the solo work.

"Arrested, tried, and convicted," press notes state, "a college professor can stay out of jail if he enters rehab for his drinking, undergoes treatment for anger management, and gives a public lecture [this play] about one person of his choosing from a list of The 100 Most Influential Jews of All Time."

Playwright Randy Cohen is the winner of four Emmy awards for his work as a writer for "Late Night with David Letterman," "TV Nation" and "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" and writes "The Ethicist," a weekly column in the Sunday New York Times Magazine.
