Colorado Ballet Cancels Nutcracker Performances

Classic Arts News   Colorado Ballet Cancels Nutcracker Performances
Colorado Ballet has canceled six performances of The Nutcracker in order to save money, the Rocky Mountain News reports.

The performances on December 11, 15, 28, and 29 have been canceled, as have December 21 and 22 matinees. These cancellations will save the company labor and rental fees for the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.

Jack Finlaw, director of Denver's theaters and arenas, told the News that tickets for those performances had been selling poorly.

For the 24 remaining Nutcracker performances, the company has agreed to pay its fees to the city in advance.

The company is currently paying debts from performances earlier this season, and is recovering from the abrupt departure of artistic director Martin Fredmann, who declined to accept an emeritus position with the company's board decided to replace him.
