To honor the 50th anniversary of the release of "Singin' in the Rain," New York's Film Forum will offer a new 35mm restoration of the film beginning Nov. 15.

The one-week engagement of the Hollywood classic begins at 8 PM on Nov. 15. This first screening will be introduced by Betty Comden, who will make a special in-person appearance at the famed New York movie house. The new print of the film uses the movie's original multi-track orchestral recordings; show times are 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 PM daily.

A couple years back, Film Forum screened a series of films penned by Comden and Green. Both writers made appearances at the art house to introduce various of the movies.

Directed by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly, "Singin' in the Rain" was co-written by Betty Comden and the late Adolph Green. The movie, which was nominated for two Academy Awards, starred Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Debbie Reynolds, Jean Hagen, Millard Mitchell, Cyd Charisse, Douglas Fowley and Rita Moreno. A Broadway musical based on the film opened at the George Gershwin Theatre on July 2, 1985, and ran through May 18, 1986. Twyla Tharp — now represented on Broadway with the Billy Joel musical Movin' Out — directed and choreographed a cast headed by Don Correia.

New York's Film Forum is located at 209 West Houston Street. Call the theatre's box office at (212) 727-8110 for more information. —By Andrew Gans
