News Composer Schwartz Reworks "When You Believe" for UK's "X Factor" Composer Stephen Schwartz's song "When You Believe" has new life thanks to the UK singing competition series "The X Factor."

The Broadway composer of Wicked reworked some of the lyrics for the song that was originally featured in the animated film "The Prince of Egypt." (The tune was also recorded by producer Babyface for the soundtrack with Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.) On the Dec. 15 finale of "The X Factor," the final two contestants, Rhydian Roberts and Leon Jackson, sang the Schwartz song. The song was recorded by winner Jackson and released Dec. 16.

The fourth season of the popular competition featured judges Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue. The show began on Aug. 18 on ITV2 and run through Dec. 15. For more on the show, visit xfactor.tv.

Schwartz has penned the Tony Award-nominated scores to the musicals Pippin, Godspell, Working and Wicked. Other works include The Baker's Wife, Rags, Fosse, Captain Louie and Children of Eden. He has teamed with Alan Menken on "Pocahantas," "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and the current "Enchanted." He is currently at work on his first opera, Séance on a Wet Afternoon.
