The Long Christmas Ride Home will premiere at Rhode Island’s Trinity Repertory Company, May 16-June 29; the official opening night is scheduled for May 23. The lines between future, present and past are blurred in the new work, which concerns a family’s ride home from a Christmas dinner. An unexpected act of violence spins the car out of control in the latest work from the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright. In Christmas Ride, Hingston — who also appeared in the Broadway production of Crazy for You — will play an earnest minister who delivers a Christmas sermon, as well as the spirit of a man who was greatly inspired by that sermon. Hingston’s other New York credits include Off-Broadway’s The Cocoanuts as well as the City Center Encores! presentations of A Connecticut Yankee, Li’l Abner, The Boys From Syracuse and Promises, Promises. Playwright Vogel is best known for her award-winning Off-Broadway opus, How I Learned to Drive.
The Trinity Repertory Theatre is located in Providence, RI, at 201 Washington Street. Tickets are available by calling (401) 351-4242. For more information, visit www.trinityrep.com.
