News Courtney Baron's A Very Common Procedure Begins Off-Broadway Run MCC Theater's New York premiere of Courtney Baron's A Very Common Procedure — directed by Rent and Grey Gardens' Michael Greif — begins performances Jan. 31.

The drama is scheduled to officially open Feb. 14 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre for a limited engagement through March 10.

Originally titled Morbidity & Mortality, the work centers on a married woman who has an extra-marital affair with a doctor. "Not an unusual New York story - until you find out how they met," according to MCC. "In facing the horrific moment that has brought them together, these three New Yorkers must come to a final confrontation in which faith, love and the truth are put to the test."

The cast for A Very Common Procedure includes Amir Arison (Beast on the Moon, Modern Orthodox, Omnium Gatherum), Lynn Collins (The Women, As You Like It, "The Merchant of Venice") and Stephen Kunken (Festen, Proof, The Journals of Mihail Sebastian).

The design team features Robin Vest (set), Miranda Hoffman (costume), Tyler Micoleau (lighting) and Fabian Obispo (sound and music).

The play made its debut last March — under the aforementioned title — at San Francisco's Magic Theatre, where it was presented in conjunction with New York City's The Women's Project. Greif — currently represented on Broadway by Rent and Grey Gardens — previously directed The Distance From Here for MCC. The always employed director has also recently staged Satellites, Landscape of the Body, Mr. Marmalade and Beauty of the Father Off-Broadway. And, he just signed on to direct the Shakespeare in the Park presentation of Romeo and Juliet for this summer. Other credits include Never Gonna Dance, Fucking A, Dogeaters, Spatter Pattern and Betty Rules, among others.

Up next for MCC, the Off-Broadway troupe continues its relationship with playwright-in residence Neil LaBute (following last season's Some Girl(s)) with the scribe's In a Dark, Dark House — a world premiere drama "about a man and his complicated relationship with a complicated father." The work will run May 16-June 23.

The new LaBute work will mark the fifth collaboration with MCC, following The Mercy Seat, The Distance From Here, Fat Pig and Some Girl(s). MCC also produced a one-night benefit evening of LaBute plays, Autobahn.

Tickets to A Very Common Procedure at the Lucille Lortel, 121 Christopher Street, are available by calling (212) 279-4200. For more information visit www.mcctheater.org.
