Still at work finishing the screenplay, the scribe mentioned he will make his film directing debut with the work. Actor Campbell Scott (Ah, Wilderness!, The Real Thing, Hamlet) is scheduled to star. (Scott has also appeared in the Lucas-penned films "Longtime Companion" and the upcoming "The Secret Lives of Dentists.") Other casting is still not finalized. "I've basically been the assistant director on so many movies, because I never leave the set. I'm odd as a screenwriter because I like to hear, I sit and I'm quiet. And I've learned a great deal," Lucas explained. "So, I'm not confident, but I'm not petrified either."

Filled with deceit and sexual tension, The Dying Gaul revolves around a love triangle between screenwriter Robert, his producer Jeffrey and the film exec's wife, Elaine. Robert, against his artistic judgement, signs a contract and begins an affair with Jeffrey while his wife decides to get involved through an internet chat room.

Lucas' works include Prelude to a Kiss, Blue Window, God's Heart, Reckless and Stranger among others. He has penned the screenplays to "Longtime Companion," "Prelude to a Kiss," "Reckless" and "Blue Window" as well as the opera libretto to Orpheus in Love and the book for the musical Three Postcards. In recent years, the playwright has taken to directing such productions as Play Yourself at the Century Center for the Performing Arts, Saved or Destroyed at the Rattlestick Theatre and This Thing of Darkness at the Atlantic Theatre.
