Tony-winner Anthony Crivello may still play Rochester in the U.S. debut of the Paul Gordon musical adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. Pam Koslow, a spokesperson for the show, said Crivello was still in the running for the part, though he had not been made to audition. Crivello originated the role in late 1996 at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. Koslow added that the producers are seeing other possible Rochesters.

Anthony Crivello won a Tony for Kiss of The Spider Woman, and has also appeared in Les Miz, Evita, Measure for Measure, and Hamlet.

Jane Eyre will receive its first U.S. production at TRT Sept. 16-Oct. 3. John Caird, who piloted the production when it played the Royal Alexandra, will co-direct with Scott Schwartz, said TRT general manager Jennifer Orth. The show has long been promised for Broadway, but has yet to announce any definitive dates or theatre. Orth said the Tennessee production was intended for Broadway but that no time more specific than the winter of the 1998-99 season had been set.

In other casting news, Mary Stout, who played Mrs. Fairfax in Toronto, will recreate her role at TRT. She will join fellow Toronto veteran Marla Schaffel in the title role.

John Napier (Sunset Boulevard) designed the Toronto set; Adreane Neofitou (Miss Saigon) was the costume designer; Chris Parry (Tommy) manned the lighting design; and Tom Clark (Seven Guitars) was sound designer. The choreography was by Kelly Robinson.
