Dallas Summer Musicals, which has been presenting Broadway musicals and theatre-related concerts in North Texas since the early 1940s, has joined forces with the Broadway Across America network of 41 cities in the U.S. and Canada and will start working with BAA to present a slate of national touring companies of major musicals starting in the 2017-18 season.
Despite its name, DSM produces shows year-round and will continue to do so. Programming will be decided jointly by DSM and BAA.
“Dallas is at the brink of a revolutionary transformation, especially within the arts community,” said Ted Munselle, DSM 2016 Chair of the Board. “Given the vitality and diversity currently on Broadway, we are excited about DSM’s partnership with Broadway Across America which could not have happened at a better time than this, the Platinum Age of musical theatre. Broadway Across America is known for their network of premiere theatre relations and their influence in the industry is unparalleled, which is why this partnership offers strong support for our organization.”
Dallas Summer Musicals’ first production with BAA is yet to be announced, but the upcoming 2016-17 season kicks off December 6-8 with the holiday revue, Broadway Christmas Wonderland. The season will continue with the Tony Award-winning An American In Paris; followed by the theatrical concert, Let It Be, a tribute to The Beatles; Kinky Boots; the circus extravaganza, Circus 1903—The Golden Age Of Circus; and, closing the season, the romantic thriller based on the hit film, The Bodyguard, starring Grammy Award nominee Deborah Cox.
In addition, the stage adaptation of the perennial holiday TV special Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical; the stage adaptation of the Emmy Award-winning classic hit TV series Cheers Live On Stage; the dance revue Stomp; and the magical The Illusionists will be presented as season add-ons.
