Delays in Visa paperwork for Damascus' Scottish cast – including Ewen Bremner, Nathalie Armin, Alex Elliott, Dolya Gavanski and Khalid Laith – have forced the production to officially begin previews May 8, one day later than originally scheduled. A May 14 opening has been selected for the work that will now play through June 1.
Philip Howard stages the work from Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre in which "a brief encounter in a Syrian hotel finds a Scottish businessman grappling with language and love, meanings and misunderstandings."
A selection of plays from England, Scotland and Wales — as well as the festival's first musical offering — are on the bill for the currently-running Brits Off-Broadway festival that plays through June 29.
Additional productions on the bill for Brits Off-Broadway include Artefacts by Mike Bartlett; Blink by Ian Rowlands; The Hired Man, with music and lyrics by Howard Goodall, book by Melvyn Bragg; Vincent River by Philip Ridley; and Some Kind of Bliss by Samuel Adamson.
Single tickets for Brits Off-Broadway range $27.50-$50. Four-show passes are also available for $125. For tickets and further information phone (212) 279-4200 or visit www.britsoffbroadway.com.
