Daniel Craig will star in a one-night-only benefit reading of Caryl Churchill’s A Number at New York Theatre Workshop March 10 at 7PM.
He originally starred in the 2002 world premiere as the son in the elliptical Churchill play about human cloning at London's Royal Court. The play was first produced in New York City by NYTW in 2004, starring Sam Shepard and Dallas Roberts. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Directed by Tony winner Sam Gold (Fun Home), the event is part of a slate of programming celebrating NYTW’s 40th anniversary. Craig famously starred in the company’s 2016 production of Othello as Iago opposite David Oyelowo, a performance that earned Craig a Drama Desk nomination. That production was also directed by Gold.
Craig made his Broadway debut in 2009’s A Steady Rain alongside Hugh Jackman and returned to the Main Stem in 2013 for the revival of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal, which also starred his partner Rachel Weisz.
Gold returns to Broadway this season, directing the current revival of King Lear, starring Tony and Oscar winner Glenda Jackson.
