Radcliffe is set to star in the film version of The Woman in Black, which will be based on Susan Hill's best-selling novel and on the hit stage adaptation that has been running in London's West End since it opened in 1989.

Radcliffe will play a young lawyer who gets caught up in a ghostly hostage plot. James Watkins will direct Jane Goldman's screenplay. The film will be released by the Hammer production company.

Radcliffe (Equus, the "Harry Potter" films) told BBC News, "I am incredibly excited to be part of 'The Woman in Black.' Jane Goldman's script is beautifully written - both tender and terrifying in equal measure."

The Woman in Black is currently running at the Fortune Theatre in London.
