Artistic director Jason Southerland announced the 30th anniversary season on April 26.
Dominic Orlando's Danny Casolaro is a simultaneous world premiere presented as part of the National New Play Network. This joint world premiere will be produced with Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre in Massachusetts. The Evanston run will be Oct. 14–Nov. 14.
Here's how Next Theatre characterizes the play: "The true story of the playwright's cousin, a reporter who disappeared while investigating corruption in The Reagan/Bush Justice Department. His body was found in a cheap motel, his arms slashed a dozen times. The authorities say suicide, but a host of conspiracy theorists–and The House Judiciary Committee–disagree. What was 'the truth' Danny died trying to tell? And what does his strange journey reveal about the political world we live in now?"
The new season will also include the regional premiere of Motti Lerner's Benedictus (Jan. 20–Feb. 20, 2011), and two plays by British playwright Phyllis Nagy — an adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley (directed by Southerland) and Butterfly Kiss directed by the author, in repertory March 24–May 1, 2011.
