El Color del Deseo is receiving its Spanish-language world premiere at Repertorio Español under the direction of Michel Hausmann. The play was seen in several English-language readings as The Color of Desire.

The cast features Hannia Guillén, Ed Trucco, Maggie Bofill, Raúl Durán, Ana Margarita Martínez Casado, Frank Rodríguez, Jerry Soto and Tatiana Vecino.

According to Repertorio Español, "El Color del Deseo is set in politically turbulent Havana circa 1960 during the beginning of the revolution. In the play, Americans and Cubans, expatriates, revolutionaries and theater people adjust to the country's rapid change. The action is centered around the erotically charged relationship between a dashing American businessman and a gorgeous Cuban actress who is hired by the businessman to play a role unlike any other: the woman he loved and lost. Their relationship becomes a metaphor for their countries’ ruptured love affair." El Color del Deseo has original music by Salomón Lerner, set design by Edwin Ermini, with lighting and costumes by Robert Federico.

Repertorio Españo previously presented the Spanish-language world premieres of Cruz's Pulitzer-winning play Anna in The Tropics in 2004 and Lorca in a Green Dress in 2006.

Cruz's plays also include Beauty of the Father, Two Sisters and a Piano, Lorca in a Green Dress, Night Train to Bolina, A Bicycle Country and Dancing on Her Knees.
