The world premiere of Hare's play The Vertical Hour, starring Julianne Moore, opened on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre Nov. 30. Hare is a renowned British playwright and screenwriter with a strong interest in politics. In The Vertical Hour, Moore's character, an academic and television commentator who advised President Bush on the Iraq War, which she supported, joins her boyfriend in visiting the boyfriend's father, who was against the war.
Hare's drama about the Bush administration during the events leading up to the Iraq war, Stuff Happens, appeared Off-Broadway earlier this year at The Public Theater. Hare's other works include Amy’s View, The Blue Room, Plenty, The Secret Rapture, Racing Demon, The Judas Kiss and Via Dolorosa. He received an Oscar nomination for his screenplay for "The Hours."
