Signature Theatre, the Tony Award-winning Arlington, VA, theatre company, will hold a Cold War-themed scavenger hunt to celebrate its current production of Chess, the rock opera set in that era.

The event will take place Aug. 28 from 10 AM to 1 PM throughout Washington, DC, rain or shine. The International Spy Museum and PostPoints are co-presenting the event with Signature.

According to Signature notes, "In a battle of wit and speed, teams must decipher clues along the way, rendezvous with contacts and access special code words in a race against time to the finish line. Contestants can participate on foot and by public transportation."

Teams can include up to four participants, at least one of whom must be 18 or older. To register, teams must email checkmate@signature-theatre.org by Aug. 27 at 5 PM. The email must include the team name, individual team members’ names, email addresses and telephone numbers. Once registration has been completed, the team will be emailed the first clue to find the location of the sign-in table.

Every participant in the hunt will win a 20 percent discount on tickets to Chess, as well as $2 off the permanent exhibit at the International Spy Museum. PostPoints members will receive a 35 percent discount and double points at Signature.

The grand prize winner's package will include four tickets to Chess, four T-shirts, a cast album and a signed poster from the musical, as well as an International Spy Museum family four pack and goody bag, a $100 gift certificate to the Shirlington restaurant Ping, and a night at the Hilton Garden Inn. If the winners are PostPoints members, they will also be able to get a backstage tour and meet with the Chess cast. Second and third place-winning teams will each receive two tickets to Chess.

Chess runs at Signature through Sept. 26. For more information, visit signature-theatre.org.
