News   Deadline Nears for Chenoweth Raffle That Will Benefit Kids in Need
Kristin Chenoweth's house seats to The Apple Tree, and some backstage time with the Tony Award winner, are being raffled for a good cause.

The raffle, which is currently running, will conclude Feb. 10 with the winners announced on Feb. 15.

Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP), the new arts-based humanitarian organization founded by Broadway music director and orchestrator Mary-Mitchell Campbell (Sweeney Todd, Company), is currently raffling tickets to attend Roundabout Theatre Company's The Apple Tree as well as 30 minutes of backstage mingling with Chenoweth.

Entitled "4:30," the raffle offers four tickets from "Kristin's special reserved seats," plus a backstage tour, and a visit to the star's dressing room "for 30 minutes of 'hang out time'!"

Other raffle prizes include signed Playbills by the cast. The cost to enter the raffle is $10 with all proceeds benefiting ASTEP.

To enter, visit Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP) "is a non-profit organization which mobilizes the global community of artists in an effort to create positive change for young people in need worldwide."

ASTEP currently hosts arts-based programming "in which teaching artists immerse themselves in poverty-stricken areas, and through the universal language of art they educate youth on issues ranging from self-empowerment and racism to AIDS awareness."

In recent months, ASTEP hosted a songwriter series with Broadway talent performing works by emerging composers and lyricists. The price of admission to those events was a jar of change.

The ASTEP board of directors is comprised of Mary-Mitchell Campbell (founder/chair), Michelle Miller (vice-chair), Mark Canavera (treasurer), Jessica Walling Stokes (secretary), Kristin Chenoweth, Gavin Creel, John Doyle, Raul Esparza, Deb Lapidus, Anne L. Nathan, Queen Nworisara-Quinn, Timothy Thomas, Pascal Van Kipnis and Susan Vargo. The executive director of ASTEP is Michael Rader.
