Being fourth-generation deaf and an actress has provided the stage and screen's Terrylene with a wealth of material. She explores the path her life has taken in In the Now, an evening of experimental American Sign Language expression, Jan. 18-Feb. 17 at the Santa Monica Playhouse.

In the Now, directed by one-person show helmer Mark Travis (Accidental Comedy, Time Flies When You're Alive, A Bronx Tale), weaves American Sign Language poetry, voice translation, storytelling and original music together to tell the story of Terrylene's abuse at the hands of an angry stepfather and the healing power of love. Maureen Davis provides the voice translation with music by Marilyn Donadt.

TV's "Beauty and the Beast," "Doogie Howser, MD" and "ER" featured Terrylene, leading to minor roles in "Natural Born Killers" and "City of Angels." She recently starred as Stella in Deaf-West's popular A Streetcar Named Desire.
