Former pop star Deborah Gibson, who has appeared on Broadway in Les Misérables, Grease! and Beauty and the Beast, will star in a production of Kander and Ebb's Chicago this fall at the North Shore Music Theatre.

According to the regional theatre's website, Gibson will headline their mounting of Chicago, which runs Oct. 29 through Nov. 17; Gibson's own official website reveals that she will play the role of Velma Kelly.

The Tony-winning tale of "murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery — all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts" is set to light up the North Shore stage in a production directed and choreographed by Barry Ivan. The hit musical, which is still at Broadway's Shubert Theatre, features such tunes as "When You're Good to Mama," "Razzle Dazzle" and "Me and My Baby." As Velma, Gibson will get the chance to perform "All That Jazz," "Cell Block Tango," "I Can't Do It Alone," "My Own Best Friend," "I Know a Girl," "When Velma Takes the Stand," "Class," "Nowadays" and "Hot Honey Rag."

After pop success with such tunes as "Only In My Dreams" and "Lost in Your Eyes," the Long Island native focused on the musical theatre, performing in the Broadway companies of Les Miz, Grease! and Beauty and the Beast as well as the national tours of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Funny Girl and Cinderella. Gibson also appeared opposite Betty Buckley in the Paper Mill production of Gypsy and recently released her newest recording, "M.Y.O.B."

The North Shore Music Theatre is located on Dunham Road in Beverly, MA. Tickets for Chicago are priced between $24 and $62 and may purchased by calling (978) 232-7200 or by going to the theatre's website, www.nsmt.org. North Shore Music Theatre season at a glance:
