News Debra Monk Stars in David Rabe’s Visiting Edna, Previewing Tonight in Chicago The world-premiere production from the Tony-winning playwright comes to Steppenwolf.

Known for Streamers, Hurlyburly and Sticks and Stones, David Rabe is premiering his newest work, Visiting Edna, at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company, starting September 15.

Tony-winning director Anna D. Shapiro helms a cast in which Tony winner Debra Monk and Ian Barford play mother and son. The story follows Edna, who after much loss in her life, now faces cancer, as her son, Andrew, pays a visit in an attempt to unearth the deep love they shared in his childhood.

Additional cast members includes K. Todd Freeman, Sally Murphy and Michael Rabe.

The staging features scenic design by recent Tony winner David Zinn (The Humans), costume design by Linda Roethke, lighting design by Marcus Doshi, sound design by Rob Milburn and original music by Michael Bodeen.

Performances run through November 6. Steppenwolf produces and presents up to 16 plays and approximately 700 performances, readings and events annually.
