News Denzel Washington, Phylicia Rashad and Leslie Uggams to Celebrate New Federal Theatre Feb. 13 Ossie Davis, Lynn Whitfield and Avery Brooks will co-host a star-studded salute to Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre Feb. 13 at New York's Town Hall.

The gala event — entitled Catch the Spirit of Black Theater — will include a "roast and toast" to Douglas Turner Ward, the co-founder of the New Federal Theatre; an awards presentation; and performances by African American stars of film, TV and theatre. Show time is 3 PM.

Among those scheduled to take part in the afternoon event are Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter, Obba Babatunde, Amiri Baraka, Mayme Hansberry, Robert Hooks, Reginald Vel Johnson, LaTanya Richardson-Jackson, Samuel L. Jackson, S. Epatha Merkerson, Phylicia Rashad, Ruben-Santiago Hudson, Kiki Shepard, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Glynn Turman, Leslie Uggams, Denzel Washington and Hattie Winston.

Catch the Spirit of Black Theater will honor Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope composer Micki Grant; playwright Ed Bullins; and Tony Award winning director George C. Wolfe. Special awards will be presented to the ensemble cast of the revival of A Raisin in the Sun and to the Theater Development Fund for its support of minority artists and companies.
