Derek Klena Brings Legends & Lore to NYC's D-Lounge Tonight | Playbill

News Derek Klena Brings Legends & Lore to NYC's D-Lounge Tonight New York Theatre Barn presents a one-night-only pre-premiere of the new musicals Body and Soul and Legends & Lore Oct. 20 at the Daryl Roth Theatre's D-Lounge as part of The Barn's New Work Series.

With book, music and lyrics by Mary Liz Mcnamara, Body and Soul is "based on the 2009 documentary of the same name by the filmmaker Alice Elliott," according to press notes. "Diana, a practical and tough-minded woman with Down's Syndrome, is the personal care assistant for Kathy, a woman with severe physical disabilities but no cognitive impairment. Can two people share one life!"

Composer-lyricist Madeline Myers and book writer Jacob Combs present a sneak peek at their new musical Legends & Lore, with Derek Klena (Wicked, Dogfight) headlining the set.

Here's how it's billed: "Set in rural Georgia in the 1950s, Legends & Lore explores the myth and magic of American folktales as three young friends set out to save their town by searching for a hidden treasure rumored to be hidden in the Appalachian wilderness. As the three friends discover, there is often much more to the stories we know than what we have been told. A celebration of the power of storytelling, Legends & Lore speaks to the optimism of youth and the vital importance of community."

Legends & Lore was workshopped at the Finger Lakes Musical Theater Festival in the summer of 2013 and received a reading at ASCAP in December 2012.

The Daryl Roth Theatre is located at 101 East 15th Street at Union Square East. Tickets are $15 at the door and $10 for students and BMI members. All tickets require a two-drink minimum. For tickets, click here.
