Michael Grandage (Red, Hamlet, Frost/Nixon on Broadway, and the artistic director of London's Donmar Warehouse) will stage Don Giovanni, with Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys, 700 Sundays, The Who's Tommy) set to direct Gounod's Faust.
The Met will also stage Donizetti's opera Anna Bolena for the first time in the upcoming season. Anna Netrebko will star as Henry VIII's beheaded wife, Anne Boleyn.
Natalie Dessay will sing Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata, with Diana Damrau and Juan Diego Flórez set to star in Donizetti's L’Elisir d’Amore. Thomas Hampson has been cast as the title character in Verdi's Macbeth, Karita Mattila will be part of the cast of Leos Janácek's The Makropulos Case, and Stephanie Blythe will sing Amneris in Verdi's Aida.
The final two installments of Wagner’s Ring cycle will also be staged as part of the Met's season. The entire cycle is scheduled for performances in April and May.
