Named in honor of late critic Henry Hewes, the awards recognize outstanding achievement in Broadway, Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway scenic design, costume design, lighting design — and "notable effects," which encompass sound, music, video, puppetry and other creative elements.

Beatty won for his scenic design for the Manhattan Theatre Club production of The Whipping Man; Long won for his costume designs on the Classic Stage Company production of The School for Lies; Croiter was honored for the lighting design to the Broadway-bound New York Theatre Workshop staging of Peter and the Starcatcher; the Tony-winning revival of The Normal Heart took honors for Rockwell's scenic design, along with the projection work of Batwin+Robin.

The 47th annual Hewes Awards will be presented during a luncheon ceremony this winter. Eighty-six artists were nominated for their work during the 2010-2011 season.
