It will be Rigg's first visit to Broadway since winning the Tony Award for her performance in Medea in 1994. She did, however, play the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 1999 in two works of Racine, Phedre and Britannicus. As for Wilde's 1895 delectably frivolous comedy of manners, it would mark its first appearance on Broadway in nearly 30 years, although the piece received a significant New York staging at Irish Rep in the late '90s. Daniel Gerroll, Eric Stoltz, Melissa Errico and Nancy Marchand starred in that version.

No casting has been mentioned for the central parts of Jack Worthing, who uses a fictional ne'er-do-well brother Ernest as an excuse to escape to London from time to time, and his friend Algernon, who decides to pose as Ernest in order to get a chance at courting Jack's pretty ward Cecily.

The production will be produced by Emanuel Azenberg. Azenberg's other planned 2005-06 Broadway efforts include The Odd Couple starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick and a new revival of Mark Twain Tonight with Hal Holbrook.
