News Diary of Anne Frankenstein Will Premiere in NYC Presenting a title that is sure to offend someone, Theatre A L'Orange will produce the world premiere of The Diary of Anne Frankenstein, an absurdist re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic by Ilya Sapiroe, to begin Oct. 1 at Off-Broadway's 13th Street Rep.

Elizabeth Elkins directs the new work (opening Oct. 4), which "follows Anne, a lowly hermaphroditic Franken-girl with big dreams and an even bigger diary, as she comes of age in the attic of an abandoned genetics laboratory in Bavaria in 1945," according to production notes. "After years of peaceful anonymity, Anne's privacy comes to an end when her cruel and twisted creator, Dr. Gustav Frankenstein, returns to the defunct compound with an eye toward his most fiendish experiment yet – the resurrection of Adolf Hitler!"

The production will feature three-time Glammy and HX Drag Queen of the Year nominee Mimi Imfurst (as Anne), and Bloolips drag performer Lavinia Co-Op (as the Diary), with Joseph Beuerlein, Geoffery Borman and Jessica Caplan.

The production features set and props by Chesley Allen, lighting by Nick Lazzaro, sound by Eben Lillie and costumes by Mel Kier.

Sapiroe is a writer, performer, producer, inventor and theatre critic. Born in Azerbaijan and raised in Brooklyn, he has since called New Orleans, Berlin and Florence his home before settling back in New York City for the fourth time in 2006. This is his first play to be produced in New York.

The Diary of Anne Frankenstein will play to Nov. 8; Thursdays and Saturdays at 9 PM, Sundays at 7 PM. 13th Street Rep is located at 50 West 13th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

Tickets are $22.50, available at (212) 352-3101; for more information visit www.thediaryofannefrankenstein.com.
