While Adam Horovitz rides the success of the new Beastie Boys album, papa Israel Horovitz is about to get a major revival of one of his most famous plays. As reported by Theatrical Index (Aug. 17), The Primary English Class will go into session at Off-Broadway's Minetta Lane Theatre soon after the Sept. 13 close of the long-running Gross Indecency.
Gerard Gutierrez has reportedly been tapped to direct the 1976 play, which will star Didi Conn (in the role that helped launch Diane Keaton). Theatrical Index reports that designing Class are Derek McLane (set), Catherine Zuber (costumes), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting) and Guy Sherman (costumes).
The Philip Rinaldi press office (reached Aug. 20) confirmed plans for the production, though further details haven't yet been finalized. Theatrical Index reports that rehearsals begin Sept. 21 for an opening Nov. 12 and previews beginning Oct. 27.
Other Horovitz plays include Line, Indian Wants The Bronx, Rats and the Broadway Jason Robards & Judith Ivey starrer, Park Your Car in Harvard Yard.. Actress Conn appeared in a 1978 mounting of Ionesco's The Lesson at the Harold Clurman Theatre and in 1980's Division Street at CA's Mark Taper Forum.
