Disney in Talks With Directors for "Frozen" Stage Musical | Playbill

News Disney in Talks With Directors for "Frozen" Stage Musical Disney Theatrical Group president Thomas Schumacher says he is talking to directors about the stage musical adaptation of the Academy Award-winning animated musical "Frozen," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film uses original songs by husband-and-wife songwriters Robert Lopez (The Book of Mormon, Avenue Q) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who earned an Academy Award for their break-out single from "Frozen," "Let It Go."

Schumacher told THR that the discussions for a stage musical of "Frozen" began before the film was even released. "There's something purely theatrical about the relationship between these two women [characters, Elsa and Anna]. You can see it," he said.

He added that he's now working with the film's writers to shape the project for the stage, but a timeline is not in place. "My job is to corral the writers of the movie," Schumacher said. "I'm already talking to directors, and I have a design concept, and we have to begin to fashion this idea. It doesn't need to be fast. It needs to be great."

Directed by Chris Buck ("Tarzan," "Surf's Up") and Jennifer Lee (screenwriter "Wreck-It Ralph") from a screenplay by Lee, the voice cast of the film features Kristen Bell ("Forgetting Sarah Marshall," The Crucible), Idina Menzel (Wicked, If/Then), Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening), Tony Award nominees Josh Gad (The Book of Mormon) and Santino Fontana (Cinderella), Alan Tudyk (Prelude to a Kiss) and Ciarán Hinds (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof).

Here's how the film, produced by Peter Del Vecho, is described: "Fearless optimist Anna (voice of Bell) sets off on an epic journey—teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven—to find her sister Elsa (voice of Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf (voice of Gad), Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom."

Additionally, Disney has released a multi-language version of the film's hit song "Let It Go," which can be seen below.
