Classic Arts News Domingo, Netrebko, Villaz‹n to Appear in Concerts at World Cup Tenor Plšcido Domingo will appear in three concerts at soccer's World Cup finals in Germany this summer, one of them with soprano Anna Netrebko and tenor Rolando Villaz‹n.
On June 6, three leading Munich orchestras will appear in an outdoor concert in the city to celebrate the opening of the finals, according to the event's web site. The concert will feature Domingo and "special guests," the site says.

A representative of the concert said that the guests would be from both the pop and classical worlds.

Meanwhile, Netrebko and Villaz‹n will be appearing with Domingo at the Waldb‹hne in Berlin on July 7, according to the web site for the concert's promoter. Villaz‹n's manager confirmed yesterday that his client would be participating.

And according to Hamburg Magazine, Domingo will give a solo concert on July 2 in Hamburg.

The "Three Orchestras and Stars" concert on June 6 will include performances by the Bavarian State Orchestra, led by Zubin Mehta; the Munich Philharmonic, led by Christian Thielemann; and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, led by Mariss Jansons.

The concerts are apparently intended as successors to the spectacularly successful Three Tenors concerts, which featured Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, and Jos_ Carreras and opened a series of World Cup finals starting in 1990.

The 2006 World Cup finals start on June 9 and will be held throughout Germany. The championship match takes place in Berlin on July 9.

Tickets for the June 6 concert are 25-124 euros. For more information (in German) visit www.3orchester.de.
