Domingo Says He Will Retire Soon

Classic Arts News   Domingo Says He Will Retire Soon
Superstar tenor Plšcido Domingo will retire from performing in the near future, but has not decided when, BBC News reports.

"The day is close that I quit singing," Domingo told the BBC. "I really don't know how to do it—a tour or a concert or if I just say, that's it, that's the last night."

He will retire, he said, because he finds the age gap between himself and fellow performers too great, and added that once he retires from performing there will be no comeback.

Domingo said he would still like to sing the baritone role in Verdi's Simone Boccanegra.

Domingo maintains a busy schedule outside of opera performances and recitals. He also conducts, and is general director of the Washington Opera and Los Angeles Opera. In 1993, he founded the opera contest Operalia.
