A Night in November, a new play by Marie Jones, will open Off Broadway on a night in October -- Oct. 1, to be exact, at the Douglas Fairbanks Theatre on W. 42nd Street. The one-man drama, performed by Dan Gordon and directed by Pamela Brighton, was first staged by DubbelJoint Productions in Belfast, Ireland.

It's to be a big autumn for DubbelJoint. Another production of the company's, Bidlids, is also due Off-Broadway this October. A rumination on the history of West Belfast over the past 30 years using actual citizens of the war-torn town, it also will be directed by Brighton. Brighton, along with Jones and Gordon, founded DubbelJoint.

November concerns one Kenneth McCallister, an East Belfast Protestant (the region is primarily Catholic), who is transformed by his own bigotry. The plays takes place on the night of the 1994 World Cup soccer game between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland -- an event which profoundly changes McCallister.

Gordon originated the role in Belfast and has played it throughout Ireland and the United Kingdom. Jones is writer-in-residence and associate director of DubbelJoint. Brighton serves as artistic director of the troupe.
