Originally scheduled to return to the posh nightclub Jan. 10, 2006, Stritch will now begin performances of At Home at the Carlyle one week earlier, Jan. 3. Her return engagement will play through Feb. 4.
With songs by Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, Jerry Herman and Noël Coward, Elaine Stritch opened her brand-new cabaret act, At Home at the Carlyle, Sept. 13. The Tony and Emmy Award-winning performer's new show features musical direction by Rob Bowman. Stritch is backed by a six piece band comprising Bowman on piano, Lou Bruno on bass, Dave Gale on trumpet, Jack Gale on trombone, Paul Pizzuti on drums and Les Scott on reeds. The Carlyle run boasts all-new material for the actress, who also recounts stories about her illustrious show-business career.
Jonathan Tunick penned the arrangements and Tony winner Jules Fisher designed the lights for Stritch's show. Concertgoers can hear such tunes as "Yes, I Can," "Perfectly Marvelous," "I Think I Like You," "I Wanna Get Married," "I Get a Kick Out of You," "Why Him," "I Went to a Marvelous Party," "He Was Too Good to Me," "That's Him," "I've Been Alone Too Long," "Fifty Percent," "Dear World," "You're the Pop (You're the Top)," "Could I Leave You?," "Heart" and "It Amazes Me."
Elaine Stritch triumphed with her one-woman Broadway show Elaine Stritch at Liberty. That musical evening traced Stritch's career, which includes roles in Company, The Little Foxes, Bus Stop, A Delicate Balance, Sail Away and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? The show received a Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event as well as two Drama Desk Awards — Outstanding Solo Performance for Stritch and Outstanding Book of a Musical for Stritch and John Lahr. George C. Wolfe directed the Broadway run. The actress also received an Emmy Award for the television broadcast of At Liberty.
