The 2006-2007 season will kick off Sept. 11 with William Finn's Elegies: A Song Cycle, which debuted at Lincoln Center's Mitzi Newhouse Theater in 2003. David Lee will direct the musical song cycle, which celebrates life (and death) through the power of song. Fynsworth Alley released the original cast recording starring Michael Rupert, Keith Byron Kirk, Christian Borle, Betty Buckley and Carolee Carmello. It features such Finn titles as "Looking Up Quintet," "Mister Choi & Madame G," "Mark's All-Male Thanksgiving," "Only One," "Joe Papp," "Peggy Hewitt & Mysty Del Giorno," "Passover," "Infinite Joy," "The Ballad of Jack Eric Williams (and Other 3 Named Composers)," "Monica & Mark," "Anytime (I Am There)," "My Dogs," "14 Dwight Ave., Natick, Massachusetts," "When the Earth Stopped Turning," "Goodbye" and "Looking Up." Kevin Chamberlin will direct the Feb. 7, 2007, offering, Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire's 1984 musical Baby, which concerns three couples whose lives are affected in various ways by the prospect of having (or not having) a baby. The musical, with a book by Sybile Pearson, played Broadway's Ethel Barrymore Theatre, Nov. 8, 1983-July 1, 1984. The original cast boasted Liz Callaway, Todd Graff, James Congdon, Martin Vidnovic, Beth Fowler and Catherine Cox. The Maltby/Shire score includes such tunes as "At Night She Comes Home to Me," "I Chose Right," "The Story Goes On," "Easier to Love," "Two People in Love," "With You," "I Want It All" and "And What If We Had Loved Like That."

The series of one-night-only performances will conclude May 14 with It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman. Stuart Ross will direct Superman, which features a score by Charles Strouse (music) and Lee Adams (lyrics) and a book by David Newman and Robert Benton. The original Broadway production played 19 previews and 129 regular performances at the Alvin Theatre in 1966. The musical, according to press notes, is described thusly: "A reporter is out to uncover his identity, while another girl is trying to steal him away from Lois, and meanwhile, an evil mad scientist is trying to take over the world. What is Superman to do? With a little help from the Citizens of Metropolis, save the world, of course!"
