Rob Ruggiero stages the production that will officially open Sept. 29 and run through Oct. 17. Penned by Jeffrey Hatcher (Never Gonna Dance), Ruggiero also conceived the musical that features such songs as "A-Tisket, A-Tasket," "That Old Black Magic" and "They Can’t Take That Away from Me."

Ella has played numerous regional engagements over the past several seasons. Fabrique has been with Ella since its Hartford TheaterWorks debut in 2005 under the working title Ella: Off the Record.

The cast also features George Caldwell (pianist), Harold Dixon (Norman), Rodney Harper (drums), Joilet Harris (Ella cover), Ron Haynes (trumpet), and Cliff Kellam (bass).

Designing Ella are Michael Schweikart (set design), Alejo Vietti (costume design), John Lasiter (lighting design) and Michael Miceli (sound design).

According to Long Wharf, "Ella The Musical combines myth, memory and music into a stylish and sophisticated journey through the life of Ella Fitzgerald, one of the greatest jazz singers of the 20th century."
