News Elmina's Kitchen Opens at London's Garrick April 26 Hackney moves north of the river when Elmina's Kitchen opens at the West End's Garrick Theatre on April 26, after its earlier run at the National.

At one point it was thought that this might be one National Theatre hit not to follow the transfer route recently enjoyed by Democracy, Jerry Springer — The Opera and others, but producers Bill Kenwright, Jenny King and Matthew Gale and the Birmingham Repertory Theatre have stepped into the breach. Kwame Kwei-Armah's play depicts a single father's struggle to keep going in a rough corner of Hackney, while shielding his son from a life of crime. It's set in a shabby café where tensions soon come to a head.

Angus Jackson directs, with designs by Bunny Christie. Hartley T.A. Kemp supplies the lighting designs, with music by Neil McArthur and sound by Neil Alexander. The cast includes Kwei-Armah himself, Dona Croll, Oscar James, Michael Obiora, Shaun Parkes and Don Warrington.
