News Emelin Postpones Remainder of Pure Heaven Run Due to Williamson's Illness The remainder of the Emelin Theatre's run of Pure Heaven: A Party with Kay Thompson — starring and written by Broadway favorite Ruth Williamson — has been postponed until the fall.

The production, which began performances May 1, had been scheduled to run through May 18. Star Williamson has developed a throat virus, which has "rendered her unable to sing for at least six weeks," according to a press statement.

Emelin Theatre artistic director Michael Bush and the theatre's board of directors have decided to postpone the production until the fall season, Nov. 6-23.

In Pure Heaven, production notes state, Williamson "portrays Thompson as she imagines her returning from her 'home sweet heaven' to set the record straight. Pure Heaven celebrates and examines Thompson as an under-rated yet key part of the American cultural landscape." The cast — under Bush's direction — also includes John Robert Armstrong, Cole Burden, Dan Maceyak and David Perlow.

Ruth Williamson, who played Jacqueline in the revival of La Cage, has also been seen on Broadway in The Music Man (Outer Critics Circle nomination), Epic Proportions, Little Me, Guys and Dolls, Smile, Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 and Annie as well as the City Center Encores! mounting of DuBarry Was a Lady. Her Off-Broadway credits include The Green Heart (Drama Desk nomination), The English Teachers, Queen Amarantha, The Good Times Are Killing Me and The Leonard Bernstein Revue. On screen Williamson has been seen in "Legally Blonde II," "Easy Six", "Family Man," "Malcolm X," "Foreign Student," "Die Mommie, Die," "Psycho Beach Party," "Double Parked," "The O.C.," "The Practice," "Kingpin," "ER," "What I Like About You," "Enterprise," "Law & Order" and "Nip/Tuck."

Kay Thompson was a bigger-than-life singer-actress-vocal coach (seen in the film "Funny Face") who also wrote the popular "Eloise" children's books. Pure Heaven ticket holders will be offered a refund or the option of using their tickets for the fall presentation.
