Before it returns to Broadway next season, the Tony Award-winning musical Miss Saigon is getting new life in an outdoor, immersive staging at Georgia’s Serenbe Playhouse. Performances begin July 21 for a run through August 14.

Located in Chattahoochee Hills, GA, Serenbe Playhouse is incorporating a huey helicopter that was flown in the Vietnam War into its production. The chopper, which will circle the playing area before landing safely away—but in full sight of the audience—is flown during the fall of Saigon sequence, which dramatizes the American evacuation from the U.S. Embassy on April 30, 1975.

Playhouse founder and artistic/executive director Brian Clowdus directs Miss Saigon.

Miss Saigon is truly the next game changer for Serenbe Playhouse: the cast, the creative team, the location, the helicopter... it all feels as though the stars are aligning with each element’s falling into place,” Clowdus said in a statement. “I am using the term ‘cinematic’ as our base concept, with this idea of ‘The Movie In My Mind’ and Kim’s dream of a different life being ever present. I want to really balance these huge, larger-than-life moments with intimate, stripped-away moments, allowing patrons to focus on the characters and their stories—never allowing the grandeur to overshadow the heart.”

The cast features Niki Badua (Mamma Mia!) as Kim and Chase Peacock as Chris, as well as Eymard Cabling (Engineer), Christopher Lee Sizemore (John), Cassandra Hlong (Gigi), and Courtney Chappelle (Ellen) and Ryan Ortega (Thuy).

The ensemble includes Erik Abrahamsen, Shelli Delgado, Hao Feng, Timothy Harland, Jin Huh, Brian Jordan, Hannah Kevitt, Nathan Lubeck, Skyler Passmore, Terrence Smith, and Austin Taylor. And the Playhouse introduces Linder Sutton, as Tam.

The production has choreography by Bubba Carr, music direction by Chris Brent Davis, assistant direction by Ryan Oliveti, scenic design by Adam Koch, costume design by Alan Yeong, sound and lighting design by Adam Howarth and properties design by Stephanie Polhemus.

Miss Saigon has music by Claude-Michel Schönberg with lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and Alain Boublil, adapted from original French lyrics by Boublil. Additional lyrics are by Michael Mahler.
The musical will return to Broadway in spring 2017.

Tickets are on sale online at serenbeplayhouse.com and by phone at (770) 463-1110.
