The new unique stagework plays as part of Chamber Music PLUS' Parallel Portrait series at the Connecticut company's C. Newton Schenck Mainstage for one night only Nov. 7.
"Crafted from historical documents, letters, and memoirs," as a release states, Sister Mozart tells the untold story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's only sister. "After his father, Leopold, no one was closer emotionally and artistically to Mozart than Nannerl. With the special burden placed on the sole survivor of this most remarkable family, Sister Mozart is a portrait of the tangled web of love, ambition, and loyalties that gave Nannerl’s life meaning, pain, and anguish as the one 'forgotten' Mozart."
Written and conceived by Chamber Music PLUS artistic director Harry Clark, the Parallel Portraits series retells the stories of famous artists with original scripts woven together from historical documents, letters, memoirs, recollections and biographies. Works of contemporaneous music are played between the dramatic text by chamber musicians.
Parsons — seen last year by Connecticut audiences in Hartford Stage's production of David Hare's The Bay at Nice — has been Tony Award-nominated for her turns in Morning's at Seven, Miss Margarida's Way, And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little and The Seven Descents of Myrtle. She is also known as the mother to the title character in "Roseanne" and the Academy Award winner for her turn in the film "Bonnie and Clyde."
Compositions in the work include W. A. Mozart's "Menuett in D," "Abendempfindung," "Fantasie in d minor," "Andantino espressivo Grande Sonata," and "Adagio in C," Helene Liebmann's "Adagio ma non troppo from Sonata," and "Theme & Variations from Sonata," Ludwig van Beethoven's "Theme & Variations on Mozart’s Opera, 'The Magic Flute,'" Franz Josef Haydn's "Adagio from Divertimento in D" and Franz Schubert's "Standchen (Serenade)."
