News "Evening Primrose," "Cop Rock" and More Musicals Play at Museum of TV & Radio in NYC, Oct. 1-3 Stephen Sondheim's made-for-TV musical "Evening Primrose," Liza Minnelli and Paul Lynde on "That's Life," the short-lived Steven Bochco police musical "Cop Rock" and more "Musicals on Television" will play in New York City, Oct. 1-3.

The Museum of Television & Radio will present a "Screening Series" of the small screen musicals timed to run with the New York Musical Theatre Festival at their Manhattan locale.

The schedule will be as follows:

Oct. 1

  • "The Thirteen Clocks" - Mark Bucci provides music and lyrics to Fred Sadoff's 1953 adaptation of the fairy tale by James Thurber — who went uncredited for his lyrics collaboration with Bucci. Donald Richardson directs the 50-minute work starring John Raitt, Roberta Peters, Cedric Hardwicke, Basil Rathbone and Russell Nype.
  • "Bloomer Girl" - Leslie Stevens adapted the musical by Harold Arlen (music), E. Y. Harburg (lyrics), Fred Saidy and Sig Herzig (book) for this 90-minute 1956 television version. Alex Segal directs a cast that includes Barbara Cook, Keith Andes, Carmen Mathews and Paul Ford while Agnes de Mille choreographs.

    Oct. 2
  • "Aladdin" - Cole Porter pens music and lyrics with S. J. Perelman's book on his last musical. Sal Mineo stars in the title role opposite Cyril Ritchard, Anna Maria Alberghetti, Basil Rathbone, Una Merkel, Akim Tamiroff and Geoffrey Holder under the direction of Ralph Nelson for the 1958 90-minute musical.
  • "Evening Primrose" - Stephen Sondheim composes the music and writes the lyrics to James Goldman's book based on a John Collier story about people who live in a department store overnight. Paul Bogart directs the hour-long 1966 show starring Anthony Perkins, Charmian Carr, Dorothy Stickney and Larry Gates. Oct. 3

  • "That's Life" - Liza Minnelli and Paul Lynde guest star in the short-lived, hour-long 1968 television series starring Robert Morse and E. J. Peaker as a young married couple whose life is explored by way of musical comedy numbers, monologues and sketches.
  • "Cop Rock" - Another short-lived TV show, this one from the mind of Steven Bochco with songs by Randy Newman. Barbara Bosson, Ronny Cox, Larry Joshua, Peter Onorati, Anne Bobby, James McDaniel, and Vondie Curtis-Hall star in this premiere 1990 episode about the life in the day of singing cops, murderers and politicians.
