Will "Queer Duck" be coming to a movie theatre near you? According to an interview in Daily Variety, a film musical based on the acclaimed animated series is in the works.

Mike Reiss, who created "Queer Duck," told Variety that he is currently in negotiations with Showtime — the "No Limits" network that airs the three minute shorts — for a feature film musical. "I think gay audiences like musicals," Reiss commented to the industry paper. He also explained that "my mandate from day one [was] if gay people don't like [the series], we're not doing it. But it's gotten a wide range of great reviews, from GLAAD to Howard Stern and everyone in between. My wife loves it more than anything else I've done."

"Queer Duck" premiered on the now-defunct internet site Icebox.com. The popular short now airs on Showtime and its website, www.sho.com. Among the series' characters are Queer Duck, Oscar Wildcat, Openly Gator and Bi Polar Bear. Past episodes include "I'm Coming Out," "Queer Doc," "B.S. I Love You," "Gym Neighbors," "Queer As Fowl," "Homo for the Holidays" and "Mardi Foie Gras." Creator Reiss is a former writer for another animated series, the long-running "The Simpsons"; for his work on that FOX program, he earned four Emmys and a Peabody Award.
