The London original cast recording of Tina — The Tina Turner Musical drops digitally March 29, two weeks before title player Adrienne Warren takes her final bow at the Aldwych Theatre in the West End. To hold you over until she reprises her performance on Broadway this fall, listen to Warren's impassioned take on Turner's "Private Dancer" in the exclusive track below.
Ghostlight Records will also physically release the album this spring; click here to pre-order or pre-save.
The track comes from Turner's fifth album of the same name, which was recorded in London and brought her international acclaim. Warren channels the singer's signature rasp and growls, infusing them with a powerful belt and vibrato more reminiscent of traditional musical theatre technique. The song is one of several Turner hits to appear in the musical, along with "River Deep – Mountain High," "(Simply) The Best," and "Proud Mary."
Warren, a Tony nominee for Shuffle Along, earned an Olivier Award nod earlier this month for her performance as the rock 'n' roll legend. She departs the West End production April 13 along with her Ike Turner, co-star Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
The musical, directed by Phyllida Lloyd, weave's Turner's discography with a book by Katori Hall (along with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins) to chart her journey from Tennessee upbringings to international stardom.
