Falsettos' Kaplan to Star in Greenberg's Take Me Out | Playbill

News Falsettos' Kaplan to Star in Greenberg's Take Me Out
Jonathan C. Kaplan, who received a 1992 Tony nomination for his performance as Jason in the original Broadway cast of Falsettos, will be part of the Gallery Players' upcoming production of Take Me Out.

The Tony-winning Richard Greenberg work about a star baseball player who comes out to his team and the world will play the Brooklyn theatre April 1-16. Directed by Tom Wojtunik, the company will feature Kaplan as well as Ron Brice, Noshir Dalal, Peter Hawk, Nobuo Inubushi, John Kudan, Jamil Mena, Scott McGowan, Joe Moretti, Miguel Ramirez and Kit Wannen.

In a statement director Wojtunik says, "Celebrity ego, homophobia, identity, prejudice, faith, and friendship are just a few of the topics Richard Greenberg investigates Take Me Out. The baseball setting provides a theatricality that is compelling and fun, and the intimate Gallery Players space adds a layer of immediacy to the story that wasn’t possible in the Broadway production."

The creative team for Take Me Out comprises Cully Long (scenic design), David Withrow (costume design), Travis Walker (lighting design) and Aaron Blank (sound design).

The production, according to press notes, "contains strong language and extensive nudity. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian."

Take Me Out began life in London and then came to New York's Off Broadway non-profit The Public Theater (it was a Donmar Warehouse-Public Theater co-production). The reception was such that the play transferred to Broadway, where critics hailed it as not only a smart and funny examination of the National Pastime and gay life, but a host of other American issues, obsessions and prejudices. Take Me Out won the 2003 Best Play Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards and was a finalist for the 2003 Pulitzer Prize. The Gallery Players is located in Park Slope, Brooklyn at 199 14th Street. Tickets, priced $12 (children) and $15 (adults), are available by calling (212) 352-3101. Performances are Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 3 PM. Visit www.galleryplayers.com for more information.
