News Fantasia to Miss Weekend of Performances in Color Purple Due to Vocal Inflammation "American Idol" winner Fantasia, currently playing Celie in the national tour of The Color Purple at Los Angeles' Pantages Theatre, will be out of the show until Feb. 16 due to vocal problems.

A Feb. 13 statement reads, "The Color Purple regrets to announce that Fantasia will miss the remainder of this weekend’s performances of The Color Purple at the Pantages Theatre. Fantasia did not perform in the Friday evening show due [to] an inflammation of her vocal cords, and this morning, her doctor advised that for the fastest and most complete recovery she must sit out the remainder of the weekend." Fantasia's understudy will play the role of Celie until the "Idol" winner returns. The Color Purple will play the Pantages through Feb. 28.
