The play, which debuted on Broadway in 1974, is aiming for a limited run during the 2010-11 season. No casting has been announced; producers include Carl Rumbaugh, Susan Batson, Antone Pagan and Charles Rosen.

Short Eyes, which is a slang term that prisoners use for a pedophile, "follows the lives of a racially mixed group of inmates at a New York prison, where they are joined by a white middle-class man accused of raping a young girl," according to the industry paper.

Pinero wrote the play while he was in jail serving time for armed robbery. The upcoming Broadway production will feature set designs by Frank DeCurtis, who was the production designer for such Ferrara films as "Mary" and "Go Go Tales."

Following an Off-Broadway debut at the Public Theater, Short Eyes played Broadway's Vivian Beaumont Theater May 9, 1974-Aug. 4, 1974. Marvin Felix Camillo directed the production, which was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play. A 1977 film version starred the playwright and Bruce Davison.

The revival will mark Ferrara's Broadway directorial debut.
