News First Date Musical Sets Chicago Premiere; Stars Announced The Alan Zachary-Michael Weiner musical comedy First Date, which played a five-month Broadway run in 2013, will have its Chicago premiere beginning Feb. 5, 2015, at the Royal George Cabaret.

First Date was developed in Seattle by the 5th Avenue Theatre and A Contemporary Theater, and ran at ACT in early 2012 before arriving at Broadway’s Longacre Theatre in August 2013, where it played 34 previews and 174 regular performances.

Jeanne McInerney and First Date, LLC, present the Chicago premiere of the musical that will be directed by J.R. Rose, with musical direction by Elizabeth Doran and choreography by Becky DeDecker.

First Date will officially open in Chicago Feb. 12. The production will co-star Charlie Lubeck ("The Glee Project, Season 2") and Dana Parker. The Broadway production starred Zachary Levi and Krysta Rodriguez. According to producers, "When blind date newbie Aaron (Lubeck) is set up with serial-dater Casey (Parker), a casual drink at a busy New York restaurant turns into a hilarious high-stakes dinner. As the date unfolds in real time, the couple quickly finds that they are not alone on this unpredictable evening. In a delightful and unexpected twist, Casey and Aaron’s inner critics take on a life of their own when other restaurant patrons transform into supportive best friends, manipulative exes and protective parents, who sing and dance them through ice-breakers, appetizers and potential conversational land mines. Can this couple turn what could be a dating disaster into something special before the check arrives?"
